Guccio Gucci
was born in Florence, Italy and opened the first Gucci shop there in
1920. He was a fashion designer known best for fine leather
craftsmanship and accessories. Gucci’s four sons joined the Gucci
firm and in 1953, the year of their father’s death, the first
overseas Gucci shop opened in New York City. During the 1980s Gucci
was passed on to Guccio Gucci’s Grandson Maurizio. Family and legal
disputes troubled the Gucci firm and by 1993 Investcorp owned 100%
of the company.
Today the
Gucci Group owns numerous fashion companies, including Stella
McCartney, Yves Saint Laurent and Alexander McQueen. Gucci is a
cutting edge brand, creating classic yet innovative fashion and
accessories. Gucci is embraced by celebrities on the red carpet as
well as high end consumers.
