In 1962, Bill
Bowerman, University of Oregon track and field coach, and Phil
Knight, University of Oregon business student and athlete on
Bowerman’s team, joined forces to create Blue Ribbon Sports. In
1972, they changed Blue Ribbon Sports to Nike, the Greek goddess of
victory. Since, Nike has grown to employ close to a million people
on six continents. Nike has also bought several other retail
companies, including Converse, Cole Haan and Hurley International.
Nike is a
sports empire that values the passion and competitive spirit of
athletes. Nike seeks to give an edge to its customers and increase
human potential. “If you have a body, you are an athlete. And as
long as there are athletes, there will be Nike.” |
